But In this particular case, this process began with a challenge.
At LA Cigar Collective, we’ve long admired Klaas Kelner’s work. His reputation has been built on precision, balance, and refinement. His blends are celebrated for their elegance—layered, nuanced, but definitely his own.
Our challenge:
“Build us a cigar that’s full-bodied. Push beyond the strength profile people expect from a Kelner blend without sacrificing the complexity and balance that define your work.”

It wasn’t about making a stronger cigar for the sake of strength. It was about exploring another side of one of the industry’s most respected blenders.

The result is Le Flambeaux.
Flambeaux carriers are an integral part of the Mardi Gras tradition here in New Orleans. In the old days, Flambeaux carriers illuminated the parades at night. In French, Flambeaux translates to "torch", or "Light bringer". This project symbolizes shining a light on a side of Klaas Kelner’s talent that many cigar smokers haven’t  experienced. It’s proof of his depth as a creative- only now expressed through a rich, bolder, more commanding blend. One can expect transitional flavors of dark brownie chocolate (think outside of the pan), leather, raisins, and sweetness. The filler bunch is comprised of 60% ligero, so the strength is there.

This project stands as a testament to creative trust—when a retailer challenges someone at the top of their game, and they answer with something extraordinary.
