The Walking Stick by Definition Cigars
BRAND / CO: Definition
CIGAR: Walking Stick [Black Band]
VITOLA: Lancero - 7" x 42
STRENGTH: Medium - Full
WRAPPER: Ecuadorian, Maduro
BINDER: Nicaragua
FILLER: Nicaragua
ORIGIN: Nicaragua, Fabrica de Tabacalera
APPEARANCE & CONSTRUCTION: Good
Back to the more rustic look with the closed foot and pigtail. The Walking Stick doesn't have the morning or sheen of the other maduros, but it does have some nice tooth covering it's dark chocolate wrapper. The seams are tight, the cap is clean and it has a medium density with some sections a little softer than others.
DRAW & BURN: Good / Good
As a closed foot, thin ring cigar, it had more wrapper over the foot with multiple sides layered over each other so took the opportunity to peal the wrapper off the foot before lighting. That helped with a more even toast and getting things going nicely. The draw is good and the burn starts evenly with only a soft wave. The ash is a light to medium gray with even striations covered by oil crystals. It's a little flaky and feathering slightly in the first third. The ash holds on until just about the end of the first third before falling.
FLAVOR PROFILE: Great
Another Definition blend that starts with a quick hit. This time with strong baking spice, toasted breadiness, and molasses sweet. It's that molasses bread we all love at outback. Some nice creaminess on the finish and a bit of dry earth. The spice grows to bring in a stronger pepper that his the back of the throat just slightly. There's some mild cocoa and charred flavors here as well, but it's a spice forward blend. Unfortunately it's bringing in some harshness that I wasn't getting from the other Definition cigars.
With the second third, the harshness pulls back and the blend is in nice harmony letting the creaminess deliver a smooth finish It's still bringing that delicious dark molasses bread flavor, but by the midpoint there's a little more earth and cocoa to the mix. Sometimes there's a little nuttiness, but very minor. No major transitions, just minor ups and downs in the individual flavors. L
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Great
Another robustly flavored and well balanced blend from Definition. It's not their smoothest with minor harshness at times, but it's a very enjoyable blend that hits the right notes for me. I also appreciate that they embrace the Lancero size. While the Walking Stick only comes as a Lancero, a couple other blends like the GEN 413, and both 919 Habano and Maduro offer it as an option too.
