The StillWell Star Holiday Y2022 LE
“Holiday Y2022: A tradition in Pipe Culture is for carvers to craft one-off designs and for blenders to create special mixtures to mark the holidays. In honor of this practice,we at Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust and Cornell & Diehl (pipe tobacco producer) have followed suit with this delightful limited edition aromatic puro with mild Cavendish burley and Virginia tobaccos.” This is the message you are greeted with upon opening a box of Stillwell Y2022. My pipe tobacco knowledge is limited to walking past the Tinder Box in the mall as a kid and smelling that sweet, aromatic pipe tobacco fragrance pour out of the store. Opening this box is very reminiscent of those days.
The Stilwell Star Y2022 is a Toro at 6 inches x 52 RG, much like the rest of the regular production Stillwell line. Joya de Nicaragua S.A. is in charge of limited production of just shy of 33,000 cigars. The blend is obviously interesting with Cavendish Burley, Virgina, and Nicaraguan filllers, Mexican San Andres binder, and Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
The profile of the Y2022 is medium in strength and body for me. Flavors of vanilla, cocoa, and sweet creaminess are both balanced well and contrasted by the earthiness of the Habano wrapper. While the pipe tobacco isn’t detected so much on the palate, it is very obvious in the aroma. This was quite pleasant for me, and my wife even made a comment of the aroma. The cigar definitely didn’t burn like a typical smoke and required a few touch ups, but with no ill effects on the experience.
The Stillwell Star line in my opinion is an obvious change of pace experiment. With that being said, I would recommend a single or two to have said experience. It goes great with a cup of coffee in the morning. Having tried this one, I’d be happy to sample each vitola in the regular production Stillwell line.
