The Davidoff Signature No. 1 LE
When I think of a top notch mild-medium new world blend, the Davidoff Signature blend definitely is one that comes to mind. The No. 1 vitola from Davidoff is considered a “Panetela Larga” , which stands at 7 & 1/2” x 39 RG. Some would consider this a Lancero. This size and blend was last rolled by Davidoff in 1969, so to bring it back is special.
The construction and appearance of this cigar are what is truly impressive. The wrapper is a beautiful, light Ecuadorian Connecticut without any visible seams. Dominican fuller is bound by an Ecuadorian Hybrid Seco leaf. Flavors of cedar, white pepper, breadiness, citrus, and floral notes are key observations throughout the 1 & 1/2 hour smoke time. A note about this blend- it is the type of blend that dries the mouth. Make sure to have a cup of coffee and a glass of water handy. This is also a cigar to be smoked slowly.
Being a limited edition, only 5000 boxes of 10 were produced. Also as a limited edition (and as a Davidoff), this experience doesn’t come cheap- as the sticker price on these go for 28 dollars per cigar. In my personal opinion, I would only buy this cigar once to say that I tried it. At the price point, I would prefer to grab the Signature blend in a wider ring gauge. Personally I feel that the blend suits itself more to a Toro or Corona.
