Gran Habano 20th Aniversario Edicion Limitada
Body: Strawberry , cedar
Foot: Strawberry, sweetness from the Sherry Cask
Cold Draw: Strawberry, Pie Crust, Cashew
First Third: Initial light up and retrohale picks up the Strawberry sweetness from the Sherry Cask with a buttery pie crust note to finish, almost as if you’re eating a strawberry pop tart or cheesecake with the buttery creaminess. Nice cashew and pie crust that linger as you release the smoke. Construction and smoke output have been flawless so far.
Second Third: Continued sweetness and rich flavors of creaminess and strawberry, with a slight undergrowth earthiness which balances out the sweetness of the sherry cask. The buttery creaminess is really nice. This would be perfect for late night after a heavy meal. Slight red pepper on the retro the further into the cigar you get which offers a kick of flavors as the cigar evolves.
Final thoughts: the Gran Habano XX Anniversario is a nice late night smoke that offers a full bodied smoke with sweetness and earthiness that complements each other perfectly. Perfect for after a heavy meal to finish off the evening like a nice glass of wine. Can’t go wrong with this pick.
Pairing Section:
From the Whiskey Cabinet: the sweetness and flavor of the Gran Habano XX Anniversario would pair perfectly with a light scotch that doesn’t overpower the cigar. Balvenie is what I’d pull out to pair at the end of the night.
From the Fridge: I’d pull out a nice glass of wine or just sip on some Topo Chico to keep all the flavors of the cigar forward on your palate. No need to dull or cover the flavors on this one.
Abbina Pairing Soda: The Oakmoss and Cherry on Candlewood would complement the sweetness and earthiness of the XX Anniversario great. Would definitely open your sinuses up to enjoy the transitions and profile of the cigar.
