The Un Nuevo Reino by AG Cigars
BRAND / CO: AG Cigars
CIGAR: Un Nuevo Reino [King]
VITOLA: Toro - 6" x 54
STRENGTH: Medium
WRAPPER: Ecuadorian, Natural
BINDER: Nicaragua
FILLER: Nicaragua
ORIGIN: Nicaragua, Mi Havana Cigars S.A.
APPEARANCE & CONSTRUCTION: Good
Light brown, slightly reddish-orange in hue giving it a lot of warmth. Its not very oily, but has a nice sheen and minimal mottling. All the veins are thin and light, while the seams are tight and blend nicely. The triple cap is clean and tight and accentuated with a tiny pigtail.
DRAW & BURN: Average / Great
The draw has bit of extra resistance but is acceptable. The ash is a very light gray that's creating even striations and holds nicely through the first third. The burn line gets dead even early and holds well through the smoke.
FLAVOR PROFILE: Excellent
An interesting mix of cedar and leather with my first draws and I'm immediately wondering what i signed up for. Then it opens up into a really complex mix of spice, roasted cashew nuttiness, light cocoa, light citrus sweet and an aromatic, floral note that overlaps with grassy hay that is super flavorful. They all come in and are quickly wrapped up in a very creamy finish and a light saltiness on the lips. I'm an inch in and this is just fantastically complex and bringing a lot of flavors you would not expect from a Nicaraguan blend.
Second third is full steam ahead with roasted cashews, sourdough bread, baking spice, pepper, citrus and honey sweet, cedar, light floral and light grassiness. The spice is strong enough to leave a mouth tingle but not enough to burn harshly or overpower. This is a pretty robust set of bright and dynamic flavors, neither light and mellow or dark and heavy. I can't tell if I'm picking up mild coffee or chocolate. Everytime I think I do, I get the other flavors. It doesn't really matter though, you're not missing it at all.
The only downside is I start to get some bitter and astringent notes that occasionally pop up, but only twice. This has been an exceptional flavorful and creamy blend that more than compensates for a couple brief hiccups in the final third.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Excellent
Robust, flavorful and bright. A really fantastic blend with excellent construction. If you've seen AG Cigars and passed over them before, don't make the same mistake next time. Totally worth the very reasonable price of addition! I was reminded of the AB Gatekeeper and LADC Edicion Especial, so if you like those, consider this.
